Postcard-sized oil painting, worked up from a life drawing
See what I'm up to on the art front!
Joined the online crowd for this one-hour event, painting Sir Lenny Henry. The online experience wasn't great (but I suspect the in-person experience was pretty frustrating too!). Oils on paper.
First image is my final painting, after a small amount of tweaking and a with better photo in decent light. Second is my effort in the hour :-)
Oils on paper. I did the initial pencil drawing from life, and also blocked in the highlights using oil bars in the life drawing session. Continued with the painting back at home.
Some postcard-size studies in oils, from photo refs - these are incidental faces in some of my photographs, people who just happen to be captured on camera, in the background or as part of the scenery.
Done using a mirror, and no photo reference. Used oil bars, oil paint and graphite. Really enjoyed just playing with paint, line and texture, and not worrying about the outcome!
Some of my pieces from the local weekly life drawing session I go to. Poses range from 10 minutes to 90 minutes.

As we head into another very hot and sunny stretch, here's a painting in oil based on a ref photo of my sister sitting in the shade during the last heatwave a few weeks back...
