 Oils on paper. I did the initial pencil drawing from life, and also blocked in the highlights using oil bars in the life drawing session. Continued with the painting back at home.

Some life drawing and a bird sketch

Hello again!

First off, a sketch from a photo ref, a jackdaw in the back garden.

Faber Castell Pitt Artists marker pens, A4 sketchbook. These marker pens were a little treat I bought myself, and I'm loving using them. Thoroughly enjoyed drawing this one!

Next, the life drawing class that I attend has started up again; here's the pick of what I managed at the last session...

Faber Castell Pitt Artists marker pen, A2, 15 min. Didn't quite get the twist of the torso, and the head looks a bit small, but it was a great pose and I enjoyed using the marker pen.

Life drawing

A couple from last week. We've now got a 1-week break for half-term, then if there are enough people signed up there'll be another 5 weeks... fingers crossed...

These first pics are contour drawings, one continuous line, in biro. The standing pose was about 10 minutes; the two drawings below are of the same seated pose (I moved after a few minutes to get a different view), about 6-7 minutes each. I enjoy doing contour drawings - it really makes you look hard for the shapes, angles and relationships before making your mark.

This next one was a long pose, around 50 minutes, pencil.

Or life painting, in this case! We had a couple of long poses last week, so I decided to try painting...

This was the better of my two efforts; I really had fun with the paint!

For the next session we're having two poses of an hour each, and I've been asked to think about trying something different from pencil or charcoal... I have ideas, so watch this space...

Life drawing

Hello again:-)

Life drawing classes have started up again. Here's the best of the bunch from the other night.

 I seemed to be having a tiny feet problem with this one! This was the first of the evening, and I was feeling a bit rusty.

This one's a bit better I think. Still need to work on faces, hands, feet, the usual bugbears in life drawing I reckon!

Life drawing

We're breaking for a week for half term in the life drawing class, so here's a couple of drawings from this week and last week. The coloured ones were 30-min poses (using pastel pencils), and are in preparation for getting some paint out after the break (how exciting!). Obviously our model wasn't really this colour! It was an exercise in dark, mid and light tones in colour.

I've been working away on a painting for a charity fundraising exhibition (more on that at a later date), and on a commission as well. I'll share both here at some point. And I'm trying to get into better sketchbook habits too...
