Self portrait in the mirror

Another mirror-based self portrait, oils on paper. Practice, practice, practice!

Postcard people

Some postcard-size studies in oils, from photo refs - these are incidental faces in some of my photographs, people who just happen to be captured on camera, in the background or as part of the scenery.

Self portrait in oil

Done using a mirror, and no photo reference. Used oil bars, oil paint and graphite. Really enjoyed just playing with paint, line and texture, and not worrying about the outcome!

Life drawing

Some of my pieces from the local weekly life drawing session I go to. Poses range from 10 minutes to 90 minutes.

portrait pratice JRR Tolkien

Pencil portrait (A4) of JRR Tolkien, drawn on the 131st anniversary of his birth, 3rd January 1892. I am a big Tolkien fan, and I'm perpetually amazed that the entirety of the Middle-Earth universe came from the imagination of one person. And it wasn't even his day job...
